The latest mobile phones are being released in droves, it seems. It can be difficult to decide which one is best suited for your particular needs and a lot of research needs to be done before such a big investment is made. Here’s the lowdown on one of Sony Ericsson’s newest creations, the Xperia Arc. One of the latest mobile phones on the market, the Xperia Arc is set to be one of the best Android based image devices of its kind. The camera on this phone has an Exmor R sensor, meaning that even if the lighting conditions are poor, the image quality is still of a high standard. The HDMI port means the user can connect the device to a HD TV that is compatible and use the TV screen to view any data on the phone. The camera on this phone has High Definition recording for videos. It also has options such as face and smile detection, geo-tagging, touch focus and image stabilisation.
The display screen on the Arc is also a stand out feature on the device; there is an LCD display measuring 4.2 inches with an LED backlight and this touchscreen has support for an astonishing 16 million colours. The resolution on this phone is an impressive 480 x 854 pixels. The display is made of a sturdy, scratch resistant material and there is the option of multiple touch input. The newest version of the software known as Timescape UI is used for this handset; this is helpful for merging your statuses and updates from multiple social networking sites and other online services.

Blackberry phones seem to attract as much attention for their one word names as for their usability. We have had, in the past, the Blackberry Torch, the Charm, the Electron, the Storm and many more. These monikers are extremely evocative but do they actually represent what their name suggests? Last summer saw the release of the Blackberry Pearl, the latest mid range phone to be released by Research in motion, but is it really a Pearl of a phone, a treasure hidden deep within the murky depths of the mobile phone market?
The phone has plenty of features, including Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity – the 3G being a welcome addition as not all Blackberrys include this as standard – an accomplished camera boasting 3 megapixels and the latest incarnation of the optical trackpad. The phone also features multitasking, something that has become a very big deal on smartphones as the rise in popularity of applications continues. This is something that RIM, when developing their Blackberrys, have been very keen to get on board with and the Blackberry App store, available with the Pearl when you buy it, continues to grow and although it has not reached the level as it’s corresponding application stores from Apple and Android it does have a reputation for selling useful and well developed applications which the Pearl is more than able to run.

The release date for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has been announced. This highly anticipated little gadget will be hitting the high streets in the UK on 28th March and if you are looking for a SIM free version it will set you back somewhat over £500, but for what promises to be the greatest of all gadgets for smartphone gaming, many will consider this to be a price that is well worth paying.
The phone was officially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress and it will include a full implementation of the latest Android platform, Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Essentially the first impression is one of an Android based Playstation. The gaming controller is mounted on a slide-out panel which reveal ‘official’ Playstation controllers along with touch sensitive joystick type controllers. Many familiar titles will be available by the scheduled launch date and these include many of the old favourites. Fifty game titles will be available and all of these games are produced in true High definition with refresh rates of 60 frames per second; certainly they look impressive.
